Scale and Counterforce

Low tide opens a space that is neither entirely land nor entirely sea. In the photograph of the fishermen, people become small figures within a broad horizontal order. In the image of the rocks, nature emerges as architecture: massive, folded, shaped by water and time. Together, the photographs do not speak of untouched nature, but of a shifting relationship. Human beings enter the landscape; the landscape continues to determine the scale.
